Public Access to Defibrillation, and the Second Chance Initiative As part of our committment to prevention, education, and success with a comprehensive approach to saving lives, we opened several new programs in 2009. "Second Chance": The Manheim Township Ambulance Association unveiled a new program called "Second Chance" which takes aim at increasing CPR training laypersons in the community. The Association's stance in 2009 changed to include the increase of CPR trained laypersons in Manheim Township, be it residents, business owners, or other regular visitors. |
Through its recent accreditation as a training center through the American Safety and Health Institute, the Association strives to educate 3500 persons in CPR by the end of 2012. This approach is evidenced by the adoptions of the education departments recent motto "saving lives, through the hands of others". "Our approach to saving lives must be comprehensive, and we hope to put the right tools in the hands of the community to help us in our fight." said Education Coordinator James Weber in a recent news article about the program. "Public Access to defibrillators": The Public Access to Defibrillation program is absolutely critical in the approach to saving lives in Manheim Township. Through the help of several local agencies, the Manheim Township Ambulance Association aims to put 15 defibrillators at local "hotspots" in Manheim Township, getting the right tool in place help our residents in the event of Sudden Cardiac arrest (SCA). The first of these free defibrillators will be place at Oregon Dairy, on Oregon Pike around March 1st. |

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association, Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter: As part of our continued committment to the fight for survival against Sudden Cardiac Arrest, the Manheim Township Ambulance Association has formed the Eastern PA Chapter of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association. This formation of local leaders, doctors, and survivors will be a strong presence in the region, so we can further our cause against SCA. The chapter was officially accepted this past January 15th, and more information will be published with our chapter website in the near future.
