The following are a list of services provided by Manheim Township Ambulance Association:
This is a van equipped with a litter for
persons who need transport but cannot sit in a wheelchair. This service is not covered by Medicare and most other Insurance carriers.
This is also not covered under the subscription agreement but will give a reduced rate for use.
This is for patients who need transport
and can sit in a wheelchair during transport. We can utilize either the patient's wheelchair or we can provide one of ours for use
during the transport. This service is not covered by Medicare and most other Insurance carriers. This is also not covered under the
subscription agreement but will give a reduced rate for use.
This is for patients who can walk on their own or with minimal assistance.
This can be used for medical trips, family visits, or other services which you just need a ride. We will drop you off and pick you
up later as you request. This service is not covered by Medicare and most other Insurance carriers. This is also not covered under
the subscription agreement but will give you a reduced rate for use.
This service is for those patients who have an emergency but
do not require the services to treat a life threatening illness or injury. This vehicle is usually staffed with two (2) Emergency
Medical Technicians. These services are usually covered by Medicare and most other Insurance Carriers.
In the event this is a routine
Basic Life Support Ambulance transport this will require a Physicians Medical Necessity Form (PMNC) to be completed in order for Medicare
to pay. Medicare rules state the patient must be be bed-confined for forty-eight (48) hours prior to transport and again forty-eight
(48) hours after transport. This means that if a person can sit in any type of chair the transport is not covered. Physicians must
evaluate this need very carefully as they are placing their license in jeopardy if they falsify this document.
This service is for
those patients who have need of additional treatment and for whom the injury or illness may become life threatening. This service
utilizes Intravenous therapy, cardiac monitor, and drug therapy. This vehicle is usually staffed with a Paramedic and an Emergency
Medical Technician. In some cases there may be two Paramedics depending on scheduling. This service is usually always covered by Medicare
and most other Insurance carriers. PMNC forms are only required for this service in few and infrequent instances. This service is
usually utilized in an emergency situation in which this form is not required.
We have frequent cases whereby someone becomes ill
or becomes injured in another region or in another state. We provide routine transports for these individuals to be transported back
home, to a local nursing facility, and/or to a local hospital. These services are transported by whatever means is necessary to ensure
stable transport of the patient whether through BLS or ALS means. This service is not usually covered by Medicare and some other Insurance
carriers. Medicare will only pay to the closest facility and all other mileage is billed directly to the patient. In these cases it
becomes quite cumbersome to the patient and/or their family. We usually try to structure a cost to the patient/family which will cover
our costs and still be less than if priced as a normal transport through another payer. We usually ask the family to contact us direct
to quote a price for this type of service.
We have transported patients back from Fort Myers in Florida, Saganow in Michigan,
Fletcher in North Carolina, Northern Connecticut, and from Northern New York near the Canadian border.
We appreciate as much notice
as possible for these type of transports. We have no limit as to how far we will travel. We are willing to work with families in arranging
these types of transports for their loved ones.
