1. Always insist your child wear a helmet every time he/she rides a bicycle.
  1. Always wear a helmet yourself as an example for your child.
  1. Try to enroll your child in a bicycle safety program if their is one available in your community.
  1. Direct your child on safety precautions before entering or crossing an intersection. Remember to look left-right-left and then proceed when all clear.
  1. Do not let your child use any kind of walkman or radio with a headset while riding. This will diminish their ability to hear what is going on around them.
  1. Make sure your child's bicycle is in good working order and all parts are tight and in proper working order. Make sure they have reflectors for better visibility.
  1. Always ride in a single file on the same side of the road as the motor vehicle traffic. Always remember to signal your intentions to other roadway users.
  1. Check with your Local and State agencies for further information for booklets on licensing and other safety related issues.
  1. When purchasing a helmet be sure it fits snug and is not too loose. Make sure it remains at least one to two inches above the eyebrow of the child. The chin strap should fit snug. Check to see the helmet has been tested by one of the American National Consumer Products Safety Commissions.
